ScrollReel Privacy Policy

ScrollReel is a Chrome extension that turns a web page into a scrolling video. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data.

Short version

ScrollReel does not collect, store, or transmit any of your data anywhere. Everything happens on your computer, inside your browser. There are no servers, no analytics, and no accounts.

What ScrollReel captures

When you click the ScrollReel icon on a page, the extension:

• Takes a series of screenshots of that page using Chrome's built-in DevTools protocol, so it can capture the full page at high resolution instead of just the visible portion of your screen.
• Temporarily hides scrollbars and adjusts sticky/fixed page elements so the screenshots stitch together cleanly, then restores the page exactly as it was.
• Stores those screenshots in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so the editor tab can open and build your video from them.

This all happens locally in your browser. The page images never leave your device, are never uploaded anywhere, and are never seen by us or any third party.

What happens to the captured images and video

The screenshots are held in your browser's local storage only for as long as you're using the editor. The exported video is saved directly to your own Downloads folder by Chrome, the same way any browser download works. ScrollReel has no server, so there is nothing for it to send data to.

Permissions ScrollReel uses, and why

• debugger — used only while you actively capture a page, to call Chrome's Page.captureScreenshot. This is what lets ScrollReel capture the entire page at full resolution instead of just what's visible on screen. It is attached only for the few seconds a capture takes, then detached immediately.
• activeTab — lets ScrollReel act on the tab you clicked the icon on. It cannot see or access any other tab.
• scripting — used to briefly adjust the page's scroll position and CSS during capture (hiding scrollbars, neutralizing fixed headers) so the resulting video looks clean, then to restore the page to how it was.
• storage and unlimitedStorage — used to hold the captured page images locally in your browser while you edit and export your video. Large, image-heavy pages need more than the default storage quota.
